Industry Specific ComplianceThe Home, Prohibition and Excise Department, Govt. of Tamil Nadu on June 25, 2026, issued the amendments to the Tamil Nadu Liquor (Licence and Permit) Rules, 1981.

In the said Rules in rule 17 (b), in clause II –

• For the expression “an annual privilege fee of Rs.15,00,000/- (Rupees fifteen lakhs only) for Chennai City and Rs. 10,00,000/- (Rupees ten lakhs only) for the other areas, a licence fee of Rs.30,000/- (Rupees thirty thousand only) and an application fee of Rs.10,000/-(Rupees ten thousand only)” the expression “an annual privilege fee, a licence fee and an application fee as per the table below” shall be substituted.

• A table shall be inserted before the first proviso. It states that the Application Fee has been fixed at ₹10,000 and the Licence Fee at ₹30,000 uniformly across all areas, while the Privilege Fee varies by category of area—₹30 lakh for Chennai City, ₹25 lakh for Corporations with a population above 10 lakh, ₹20 lakh for Corporations with a population below 10 lakh, ₹15 lakh for Municipalities, and ₹10 lakh for all other areas.
